From Live Life Aberdeenshire –

Click and Collect and Doorstep Deliveries will be available later this month from Stonehaven library, with a new service rolling out in Aberdeenshire from next Wednesday July 15, offering a safe way for communities to access resources.

While Live Life Aberdeenshire’s digital library services have been very well used during lockdown, we know there’s a great demand for increased access to materials only available in libraries.

The new services are being introduced to allow customers and staff to remain socially distant and safe, while still getting what they need to make lockdown more bearable.

Although libraries can open from July 15 in line with the Government’s routemap out of lockdown, services will initially recommence with Click and Collect and Doorstep Delivery.

The new Click and Collect service will roll out from Library Services Headquarters in Oldmeldrum on 15 July, followed by libraries in Fraserburgh and Banchory, then Ellon and Stonehaven by the end of July. Click and Collect items can be picked up from these designated venues and returns can also be dropped off there.

It will also be possible to have books and other library items delivered to your doorstep by local staff teams, on foot where possible, providing an opportunity for interaction.

Work to develop Aberdeenshire’s library service was ongoing when lockdown began, and in consultation with communities the need to deliver the service in new and innovative ways was highlighted. It is hoped the new service could be part of a suite of services going forward.

Click and Collect and Doorstep Deliveries are expected to engage a wider section of the community, giving far greater flexibility than a physical library which may only be open for five hours a day.

Libraries and Information Services manager, Sharon Jamieson, said: “We recognise that not everyone can access digital services and the introduction of this service will ensure no vulnerable groups are limited by either shielding or simply an inability to visit a library when it is open.

“Click and Collect users can either carry out the booking themselves online through a very simple process or they can phone a member of the team who will take them through the process and record their requirements and booking slot for collection. There will also be a live chat function on the Live Life Aberdeenshire website to help customers through the process.”

Live Life Aberdeenshire has partnered with the Co-Op who provided compostable bags to wrap the resources, which will have quarantine measures applied both for returns and issues.

Neither service will be limited to books – users will also be able to collect (or have delivered) hearing aid batteries from the NHS, Curricular Support Resources and in time even musical instruments from Library Headquarters.

Usage will be closely monitored to inform future development of Aberdeenshire’s Library Service.
