Going The Distance

A STONEHAVEN woman is to cycle the land train route every day, having been inspired by a charity challenge.

Mary Marr spotted online the Friends of Anchor’s challenge to collectively cover the full distance of the perimeter of the North-east of Scotland, including Aberdeen and Shire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland – a distance of 2600 miles.

Mary said: ”I am a volunteer conductor on the Stonehaven Land Train, which is not operating at the moment, so I thought I would recreate the land train journey by bike. ”

The keen cyclist said she has signed up to ‘Going the Distance with Friends of Anchor’ but is not looking for sponsorship, just a lovely lunchtime cycle.

Mary intends to leave the Market square at 12 noon each day for the first week of June.

”I will leave the Market Square, head to the caravan park, up the coast road cycle path to Dunnottar Castle, return by the same route – downhill! ┬áThen on to the harbour and back to the Market Square.”
