A ROWAN tree draped with lights is now brightening the entrance to Stonehaven thanks to the efforts of a host of community groups.
The Horizon Group led the project at the Burns Memorial Garden, supported by Aberdeeshire Council’s landscape services. Stonehaven and District Community Council provided funding for the lights installed by Scotia Lighting – facilitated by Stonehaven Town Partnership – while local electrician Michael Ritchie provided his time and materials to hook them up.
And neighbouring KwikFit are supplying the last vital ingredient – the electricity.
The idea for Christmas lights in the small garden was first mooted by Lindsey Wood, a member of Stonehaven Community Council.
Horizon convenor John Cruickshank said he was delighted with the finished result.
”This was a good idea that we’re pleased to have made happen,” he said.
He added: ”This is a new addition to an area the group are working on as part of a rejuvenation programme, in conjunction with The Burns Fatherland Club,” he said.
Hopefully, next year, we’ll have some fresh planting and more new features for visitors to enjoy.”
