STONEHAVEN’S RNLI are launching their own call for support by lighting up the War Memorial yellow on 29th April, for the start of their charity’s Mayday event.
Landmarks across the country will be transformed by yellow light on the same day, to draw attention to the need for funding for the crews’ vital protective kit.
The Stonehaven volunteers are then holding an open day at the lifeboat station on 12th May from 11am-3pm with kids’ games, boat displays, BBQ, teas and coffees.
And like lifeboat stations up and down the land, they are hoping their community will rally round to show some further support.
The lifesaving charity, who are supported entirely by public donations, are asking people to organise a fundraising event, any time in May, to help fund the iconic yellow kit worn by lifeboat crew volunteers.
Whether you feel like mustering the energy to lift a lifeboat with your gym partner or fancy a more laid back day of baking there’s plenty you can do to help.
Stonehaven RNLI Community Fundraising Branch Chair Karen Smith said: “During the month of May we’re asking people in our community and across the country to do their bit to help fund our volunteer crews’ lifesaving kit.
”The RNLI is entirely funded by the generosity of the public, we wouldn’t exist without them and ‘MayDay’ gives people a chance to get creative and have a bit of fun all whilst helping to save lives!
”For example a bake sale that raises £55 would buy a pair of our protective, steel-toed, wellies for a crew member, those boots could take part in hundreds of shouts and play their part in saving lives at seas.”
If people want to get involved they can find lots of details on the RNLI Mayday website.https://rnli.org/mayday
In 2018, Stonehaven volunteer lifeboat crew launched four times in every condition that Scotland’s famously changeable weather could throw at them. From commercial fishing boats to kayakers and paddle boarders, Stonehaven RNLI volunteers were ready at all times of the day and night to drop everything to help people in need of rescue.
So, come along to Stonehaven RNLI Open Day 12th May 2019 to help fund your local crew’s kit and have some fun to (yellow welly) boot!
