It is hoped volunteers of various groups and societies can team up next week, Sunday, April 07, 10am – 12pm for a community beach clean, writes John Cruickshank of Stonehaven Horizon.
Coop, in conjunction with Horizon, and as part of its community engagement and Keep Scotland Beautiful Spring Clean 2019, will be doing a beach clean along Stonehaven Bay.
This year Scotmid Cooperative is the principle partner with Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Coop Stonehaven’s community lead is Ms Toni Christie from the Market Square branch. The plan is to involve staff from all four of Stonehaven Coops in the hope we can get a big group of people to join in.
Toni said, “It would be a great idea for the community groups to work together and do a beach clean.”
Last year Coop Stonehaven raised £38k for local good causes. Friends of Stonehaven Pool were the main recipient of funds to the tune of £20,000. This year the good causes are Pillar, Friends of Carronhall and PAMIS, Stonehaven.
So far it looks like we have volunteers that may include Stonehaven Coastguard, RNLI, Sea Cadets, Lions, Paddle-boarders and many more.
Volunteers should meet at 10am at Stonehaven beach promenade by the Cowie Bridge turning point. A short briefing will be had and depending on numbers we may plan to split into three beach groups.
1) River Cowie to Cowie village
2) River Cowie to River Carron
3) River Carron to Backies car park.
Volunteers should please wear gloves and stiff shoes. Yellow vests, bin bags and pickers will be provided. If you do have your own yellow club vest please take it along to wear.
Let’s hope we have a good day for it – let’s keep Stonie tidy.
