Dunnottar Castle, at Dawn

Castle suspended in the ocean, with dawn behind.

This is image was taken at the very start of winter 2018. Golden hours photography relies on shooting before and after dawn and the same at sunset. I remember waking before dawn four or five am and sensing the time was right to make an attempt on the castle. I contacted Andy Hall my mentor to see if he was awake and feeling inspired to support me in discovering the art of shooting the iconic, Dunnottar Castle, which of course he was and raring to go, being the fantastic mentor and advocate of the Mearns that he is.

The result is this moody shot of the castle, resting nestled in the north sea morning, preying on the day to arrive and to bask in it’s very own splendour.
