PERMISSION in principal was given today for a commercially run Hogmanay party in the Market Square.
And Councillor Wendy Agnew struck a blow for the local authority’s struggling coffers by proposing the event company should not only cover all costs to the Council, but pay an additional amount.
Parking officer Lorna Hogg addressed today’s meeting of the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee. She said she had had enquiries about the use of the Square at Hogmanay and was seeking a decision to help guide her discussions.
Ms Hogg said all the costs to the local authority were to be met by the event organiser, including the amount that would be lost in car park charges.
Mrs Agnew said: “So we don’t make any profit then? The Council needs money.”
And with the unanimous support of her colleagues, Mrs Agnew’s motion for permission – and a £300 charge – was passed.
